On March 21st (Online)

Since Germany is still locked down, we will be hosting another amazing event for you in March!

What is this about:

Dokan has been nurturing karate talents on German and European levels for many years. More than that, the club has always been the place to go for many families. A high-performance club where there is no pressure to perform and everybody feels at home.

During this pandemic, several bureaucratic backlashes got the club into serious difficulties. Members and friends of the club came up with an idea: why shouldn't other people have a feeling of how special it is to train at Dokan and help it to keep shining?

That's how the first fundraising seminar came to life in November 2020. With classes from renown athletes and coaches that train(ed) at Dokan, more and more people asked to help so we ended up putting together programs that got the entire family covered, including international guests.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

How much does it cost?

Nothing, but since this is a charitable event, we are happy to receive donations to keep Dokan going and captivating families and athletes.

In Europe, most individuals contribute with the recommended 20€ but we know other countries have different realities, so everyone should contribute with whatever they feel comfortable with.

In what Language will be the classes taught?

The karate classes will be taught in English or English AND German. The other classes are planed to take place in German. Some of those might be taught in both languages if there are interested participants from abroad.

When will the Seminar take place?

On March 21st, the Seminar will start at 9 am CET (Central European Time) and will go on until 5:30 pm CET.

Where will it take place?

Online on Zoom. Once you register, you will receive an email with the links for the event.

THE PROGRAM

Just like in the other four past seminars, the program will entail enough variety for Karateka and non-karate people, for all ages and interests.

Take a look of what is waiting for you:

9:00 - 10:00 am: Introduction to Taiji (with Mario Pestel)

We will start the day with this soft but demanding art from China. Focusing on movements and breathing, Taiji increases body self-awareness and helps in several areas of life. Mario Pestel received his shifu (master) certificate in China and teaches other forms of self-defence.

10:30 - 11:30 am:  The ground is your friend: Breakfalls and roll for all ages (with Oliver Becker)

More than natural in other martials arts, uremia waza (breakfall techniques) is often neglected in karate. However, mastering these skills can save one's life. And the need for knowing it only increases with the time. Oliver, self-defence instructor, founder of Shunryu Karate, and experienced in Ju Jitsu, will dedicate this class to teaching every level and every age the essentials of falling safely.

12:00 - 1:00 pm: Dance-Fit (mit Arnaldo)

Best-quality dance workout: music, choreography, sweating, and burning calories. Keeping a huge smile in your face while doing this is a task for Super Arnaldo, who is also a certified Zumba® instructor.

1:30 -2:30 pm: The Concept of Sutemi in the Technical Training (with Felipe Tsoy) - IN ENGLISH AND GERMAN

The idea of sacrifice is well-known in the samurai culture. Japanese arts such as Judo, Ju-Jitsu and Ninjutsu have several "sutemi waza" (sacrifice techniques) in their programs. Is there a way to integrate this feeling in our karate training, usually so much focused in getting a technique "right"? Felipe will practice different ways of doing this to improve your karate.

3:00 - 4:00 pm: Less Effort, More Power: The Principles of Inoue-Ha (with Ricardo Cruz) - IN ENGLISH

The shito-ryu grandmaster Yoshimi Inoue developed a system to achieve more with less energy wasting. The Brazilian representative of the Inoue-Ha and one of the most successful coaches in Latin America, Ricardo Cruz, will show us the way to get faster and more powerful techniques without wasting efforts.

16:30 -17:30: Preventing Harmful Movements, Osteoarthritis (with Janina Kaiser)

Sometimes, due to wrong posture or movement in training, at work, or even due to fashionable ways, become a problem for our body over time.

This stretches from degenerative occurrences in the joints to bad digestion or mental conditions.

In this class, we will work with practical exercises to use our body in the best way possible and avoid those problems.
